It has been nearly two decades since the dictatorial government of EPRDF took power through an armed insurgency. Since then our country and our people have been through a lot of suffering and pain. With a control of the army, this regime thinks it can forcefully govern forever.
They promised us a lot when they first came to power like freedom of speech and free and fair election. But they turned out to be the same as other dictators who want to retain power and rob their people and their country out its resources.
The May 2005 election was a good reminder that our people are striving for change and are sick and tired of the same old lies that the government is feeding them. The only thing that makes this regime different than the previous one is that it is very smart and knows how to lie and buy people to do its dirty jobs like suppressing dissent.
I also want to remind you that this TPLF led EPRDF regime has less that 7 % of the seats in the House of People's Representatives. Which means that they are a minority, without them being able to buy some of the Oromo and Amhara individuals who sold us for their own personal benefits, they would not have been able to control the country for this long
I would like to remind you that there is still hope for achieving our dream for change and freedom. We can not give up and lose hope as tomorrow is a new day, it brings with it a new opportunity. We can't stop fighting for freedom, if we do those brothers and sisters who died struggling for freedom and change would have died in vain. I am not saying it would be easy, it will require some sacrifice, but there are many of us who are willing to scarifies our lives to see our children live in a free and democratic Ethiopia
As we all know May 2010 is not far. There will be a national election after 8 month or so. But since EPRDF took its lessens from the May 2005 election, they will make it even more difficult this time. For this reason, we must start the work today. We must unite for a common purpose and contribute something for our cause
So I hereby call all Ethiopians in Diaspora or in the country to contribute. It can be in any form (financial, manpower, etc). Citizens living in Ethiopia, do not forget to register for the election as it is the only way you can give your vote. Support the opposition parties whom you believe is worthy of trust and support them in any way you can. We have waited 5 more years to get this opportunity once more, so lets not let it pass. The world will be watching closely,
God help us and God bless our country.
