The Ethiopian Election Board has granted license to the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC), nine months after the application was submitted. -- Nov 12, 2009

The former leadership of the Oromo National Congress, including all members who had been elected by the people in order to represent them in the parliament during the May election of 2005, have finally decided to continue their struggle for democracy and respects of human rights in Ethiopia in general and that of the rights of the Oromo people in particular under the umbrella of a new political organisation, the Oromo People's Congress (hereafter OPC).

Thus, the Executive Commitee of OPC that is chaired by the former ONC leader, Professor Merera Gudina, calls upon all progressive Oromos and other Ethiopians to join and support this newly created organisation in the long and tiresome struggle to promote democratic system of government and that of ensuring respect of human rights in Ethiopia.
